Flying Aces Pilots Association

The meeting was held at FANS SPORTS GRILL on December 7th 2011,
3425 DAVID COX ROAD CHARLOTTE, NC 28269 (704) 597-7413

Meeting was brought to order by FAPA President Ken Medlin at 8:00 pm, 12 members present.

Old business,

The members discussed getting tags for members. This will be considered and researched again and presented to next month meeting.

There has been a change at J. M. Robinson High School. Indoor flying was discussed. It looks like indoor flying will be allowed if students sponsor
the events. More information will be made available when finalized.

Repairs at Waymer Field were discussed again but nothing was decided due to the lack of County approval. An early spring date to do some minor
repairs and seeding was discussed but no date has been set. It may end up as a weekend work project for the members.

New Business.

Membership dues are due on January 1st, $40 for 2012. Please have a copy of the clubs membership form accompany your cash or check, make sure your
Email address is clearly written on the form or you won't get Email notifications. (NOTE: you must also get a Waymer pass, applications to be sent to WACAMA not FAPA)
FAPA and WACAMA applications are available for download on the Flying Aces website.

Keys to Waymer field will be issued with your Field pass application for an additional $5 fee.

Safety consideration at Waymer were discussed again and many examples of safety violations were brought up. Note to members, as AMA and FAPA members we are all
responsible for insuring the safety at both Waymer and Charlotte Motor Speedway. A safety Officer for Waymer is really needed. Thick skinned members need to apply
for this position. They will get the full backing of FAPA .

Parking problems at Waymer were also discussed AGAIN. Please don't park at the shelter and remind others to remove their cars to the parking lot after unloading.

Discussions were held on safe flight of new members and it was suggested that a club member check out the flying skills of new members. (a certification of sorts)
It was deemed to be a good idea for safety reasons. Interested people need to make themselves known to the club Officers.

We are starting our planning for next springs Fun Fly. The gathering of information and available dates has begun. We are looking for a greater participation from the
club members to make this next Fly-in a big success. Any Contest Directors in the club should step up during this planning process. All members need to attend club
meetings whenever possible, work permitting. Suggestions can be sent to Club Officers through their Emails.

Reminder for all members to renew their AMA memberships for 2012.

Next months club meeting will be held at FANS, 3425 DAVID COX ROAD CHARLOTTE, NC 28269 (704) 597-7413 on Wednesday, January 4th 2012. Dinner from 6PM to 7PM, meeting from 7PM till.........

The Officers of The Flying Aces Pilots Association wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and we hope you get packages filled with things that fly.

I will have a very good menu that will consist of wings, fresh pattied burgers, fresh cut fries, and more. I am looking forward to providing my services to the r/c community."

Bob Bauer gave an update on the scheduled repairs of Waymer Flying Field.  Parks and Rec's may allow the repair of the field after reviewing the final plans drawn up by the Field Repair Committee. The
repairs will include the scraping of the flight line and replacing the soil with a better quality soil then replanting the area with grass seed.  The cost of this repair will be high but with the participation of our club members and other flyers at the field it can be reduced to an affordable amount.  Updates will be forthcoming. If you want to volunteer to be on this committee contact Tom Moore.

The tentative date for the Spring Fun Fly at Charlotte Motor Speedway is set for Sat. April 30th.  This date depends on the activities already scheduled by other clubs in the area so it is not a definite date.

Visitors from the Jay M Robinson High School were at the meeting. They would like our club to help them with their ROTC program involving RC flight.  The club agreed to put together a demonstration for the Students and invite them to visit the CMS field for instruction.  Volunteers may contact Evan.

A contact list will be posted at Waymer for members and non members.

Tom Moore will be supplying a battery at Waymer for the purpose of charging flight batteries.  This should help those out who have been walking to the parking lot to charge their batteries.

NOTE:  Vehicles are not to be parked at the shelter at Waymer.  You may drive up to the shelter to load and unload your vehicles only.  This is not a club rule it is a regulation set forth by the Mec Parks and Rec Dept.  Parking at the shelter may result in losing vehicle access to the shelter by The Parks and Rec Dept.
